It's not big deal to speed the idle up some.
(That is what the AAV does until the engine warms up.)
A vacuum leak, especially in the vicinity of the MAPSensor hose, will make it hunt.
Just remember, NOBODY claims that sanity is necessary (or even helpful) in working on oldtimers!
