Dylan;
The slot for the tailpiece of the lock cylinder was never a simple slot anyway...it is a slot with a central circular hole in which a spring resides, which loads against tailpiece of lock cylinder...and if the whole thing was worn into a round hole as you state, then I fail to see how a slotted screwdriver would work at all to start vehicle...
I'm unclear here...some wear is expected sure, but how are you so certain that it needs replacement?
RJ; ...of course I'm going to recommend a Start Switch addition!...for whatever OE IGN switch he winds up with...even if stays the original one...because that IS the solution to key breakage, and making you IGN switch last another 40 years. (Because you don't hotswitch it anymore after that.)
PS. I'll take a worn, quality OE switch in combination with a Start Switch ANY DAY over some hacked-in (chinese trash) replacement switch...the Bosch switch will probably still outlive it!
Cheers
