As the Volvo brethren have it all pretty well covered. Check the rubber hood molding/seal that is supposed to prevent water from running down directly into engine compartment. The rubber has a habit of losing its adhesive connection to the cowl and then water can literally drip right onto the distributor. Been there seen that. Just have to clean it with windex then re-glue.
