How do you install a new "clock' spring? 444-544

Hello PV-ites,
First of all, Happy Holidays to all!
I have a new "clock" spring I'd like to install to my lock mechanism. My question is how do I remove the old one & install the new one? The spring seems to be under some pressure so I'm not really sure how to remove the old one & install the replacment.
Any/all advice deeply appreciated.
