B21, B23, B230 engines

The Volvo B21, 23, 230 are not interference engines, so if the belt brakes it's not a catastrophe. For everyday driving, they will all go several hundred thousand miles. Your 82 is probably a B21, mine was, this engine, if it's had oil changes will run for many hundreds of thousands of miles. There are some differences, that may be advantageous for performance, I don't know them off the top of my head. I think the turbo website describes some of this.
