SIMPLE FIX! 1800

He's talking about the little relay-ish looking gizmo on 1800E/140 gauge panels. It supplies some lower voltage to the gauges, something like 5V (?). They are designed to give the gauges a brief shot of 12V when the key is first switched on, so the gauges jump up. Otherwise they'd just sloooowwwlllyyy rise up to their readings.

If the gauges get 12V for more than a second or so, they peg high, and then overheat and burn up shortly thereafter.
