The carbon fiber he is referring to isn't the composite material, it's a felt-like material, about 1/4" or 3/8" thick. A guy was selling these firewall blankets on eBay for quite a while. I have one and am going to install it shortly so I can't make any claims as to how quiet or soundproofing it is. I'm pretty sure there are a number of people here who are using them...
