Thanks for replying but no, it's not about the bearings but the rubber spring mounts. They are clearly different; I compared them to some new ones at the parts store also, and the new ones were the same as the ones that I got with the Bilsteins. The one that was in my car originally was much thicker.
The parts store guy who has been dealing with Volvo parts for at least 20 years said that all 740 mounts are the same, so this is odd at least. He had not seen this thicker mount before.
