Harness should be fine on the 89. The wire/insulation on the Crank position sensor is known to go bad so replacing it was a good idea anyway.

Do you have spark and fuel?
Jump the left side of fuse 4 and 6 this forces fuel pumps to run continuously. Does it start?
Pull a spark plug leave the wire attached and ground the body of the plug, crank the engine. Does it spark? Is the plug wet?
