AMP Indicator ON means Charging system is off-line OR Fuse 1 is open. When brushes get worn down, intermittent CH Sys problems like this can result as pressure to commutator gets less and less...monitor system voltage to confirm which is the case.

I don't know what disconnecting bat will buy you when you have a possible CH Sys problem...if bat is discharged, it wont recharge itself...first thing is to determine if CH Sys is not putting out, or Circuit 1 is not powered.
