wiper motor replacement - what did I do wrong?

I replaced the wiper motor on my 89 240, SEEMED really easy - but now when I activate the wipers they go down 4-5 inches before they go up (they work normally at this point) and when I turn them off they they stop in the middle of the windshield.

The intermittent function doesn't work either. After a pause they will just run continuously. Anybody know wth I did wrong?
