One more issue i think i already solved 700 1990

Okay so its a 1990 740T Manual. After purchase and getting the car home it will not drop into 5th ( OD ). after reading the FAQ i tried a few things, i pulled the relay and attempted to resolder it, still nothing when i push the button, though this time i put the relay in without its cover and reached in and pushed the relay connection together and the 5th gear light lit up, i did this with the car running and in 4th gear, have i just guarenteed i have a bad relay or is it still possible i have a bad ?4th switch??
