Yes, but...

...I'll bet you have always tried out your new pads with a couple of hard stops. That's bedding-in enough for street compound pads. Street pads are hard for long life. They must work from cold. In a few applications of the brake, they are as bedded-in as they are going to get.

Racing compounds are a different animal. They are much softer and work at higher temperatures. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for bedding-in when installing soft pads. Always warm the pads during the warm-up lap.

A commercial shop will bed-in your street pads for liability reasons. If their guy did something wrong or if the pads are contaminated, they need to know it before you do.
