Speedometer sensor in rear 700 1992

Spoke too soon. After 111 miles, at a red light, the speedometer sat at 45mph. When I started again, it went to Zero, and that's where it sits. ABS light is not on, so I don't feel it is the sensor or the sensor connection.

I would like to check out the instrument panel, but don't know how to get it apart. I see a small rectangular slot on each side of the panel.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
