Shifter bushings misaligned? Long.... 700 1987

Hey Ari-
This isn't impossible - though the bushings can be a pain.

This is how I did it, but it may not be perfect.

There are supposedly three bushings for the shift linkage (I only found two), and an adjustable assembly for adjusting the gear the trans is in.
The adjustment can be made like this - I would block all the wheels though:
Under the car and with the adjustment loosened, but not removed, move the trans end of the linkage to 1st, then to second, then to drive. (don't forget, all the way FORward is first when you're talking trans side of hte linkage)
Get in the car, and put it in drive.
Back under the car, tighten the linkage, then shift the trans end into second. The shifter should be aligned correctly into second.

I would definitely replace the transmission mount before doing this adjustment.
