I am working on getting a b230ft checked out and ready for transplant in my son’s 1988 744T.
This car is equipped with an M46od. That brings up a question or two. This is uncharted territory for me as my Volvo experience is limited to R&R of AW automatics.
I work off of jack stands. My plan is to pull the engine and transmission as a unit and then separate the transmission from the engine. The Laycock overdrive was removed and resealed 35,000 miles ago. It operates fine and does not leak.
At the very least I know I should install a new pilot bearing and replace the throwout bearing. Is there anything else that is a no brainer at that point? The clutch plate is an unknown. Does anyone have any information on how thick a new clutch plate is so that I can try to determine where this one is on the wear scale.
So other than a new pilot and throwout bearing and evaluating the clutch plate what else should be done?
Thanks
Randy
