Hi Matt,
Yes, the 1969 model year Amazons had a column mounted ignition as well as a locking steering wheel, dual circuit brakes, B20 engine, and improved brake servo. However, the door pockets, roof chrome, nose chrome, back seat arm rest, and hand brake chrome was missing on the 1969 Amazons.
I liked all of those missing trim items and have built them back into my 1969 model. Amazons built after 1 Jan 1968 could not be imported to the US due to the (then) new EPA regulations. I think that has since eased for old-timers, but at the time it was strongly enforced.
I imported a 1968 123GT from Germany to the US in 1969 and had to obtain a certificate from Volvo that the car was built before 1 Jan 1968. The certificate stated that the car was built in Dec 1967.....good enough for me and the EPA at the time.
My current 1969 123GT was initially registered in Switzerland as were most 1969 123GTs and was brought here to Germany about 1985. I bought it 7 years ago.
