Thank you very much for the suggestions. Can I just attach a tire pressure valve to the fuel rail to check pressure there? Where is the check valve. Again, mine is a Rex/Regina wagon, which I think effects the fuel pump configuration (single vs. dual pumps). If I can measure pressure in the fuel rail with a normal tire pressure gauge I will do that next time it acts up.
Also, interestingly, before summer the no start episodes would correlate very tightly to wet weather. Rainy cold day, no start in the morning. Once started for the first time in the day, the rest of the day is fine. Now in the summer it seems to not be connected to wet weather, but we do get cold nights and then lots of due on the grass in the morning. So the crank position sensor is still in the running for a candidate.
