Don't pull your hair out going over the mechanics. Ignition timing on Rex is entirely electronic. The crank sensor is a reference given 90 degrees BTDC, and from that reference, all spark timing is generated and adjusted by the computer based on RPM, load as determined by Regina, and the knock sensor. No other mechanical influence exists, at the distributor or elsewhere. The only exception I can think of has occurred, when the flex plate was removed and reinstalled 45 degrees out of phase.
