Mbus to mini cable. Where should I route the cable? 700

1987 744 turbo

I am in the process of making my own mbus to mini cable to plug into my aftermarket alpine stereo. I am going on a ~800 mile trip in three weeks, and I don't like trying to change CDs while driving. Finally getting my ipod to play through my car stereo is one of the things on my to do list before I leave.

I don't have any questions about making the cable, it seems straight forward. I was just wondering if anyone else has done this and where you routed the cable through. I have never had the center console of my 740 apart so any info/tips would be greatly appreciated.
