It did clunk and knock before I replaced the struts.

From what I've read in the IPD literature, most struts returned due to "new" knocking are because of other failed suspension components that were masked by the old struts.

I'm assuming this is the case here, but the struts on my car were so incredibly bad, it was unsafe and needed to be addressed first.
