1990 740gle drivability problems 700 1990

Hey Dave,

I was just trying to explain the relative location of the sensors, not that they are at fault. I think you're on the right track thinking something is up with the ignition system. I would check the knock sensor out as Dave Stevens suggested. Try checking the codes. I suggest cleaning all the ground points. They can cause all sorts of odd electrical gremlins to pop up. There are points on the inside front fenders, toward the front of the car, straps on the engine to the firewall, and points on the kick panels ahead of the front doors. The electrical section of the FAQ explains it in detail. I highly recommend Deoxit D5 cleaner for cleaning the connectors. It helps a lot. You can get it at partsexpress.com and other places online. They make a deoxit shield product that protects the connectors after they've been cleaned. I would throughly check out those other parts before condemning the ignition ecu.

Good luck!

Regards, Jon 'Uncle Olaf'
