Two electrical issues on a '90 240: are they related?

Hi all,

I've been trying to track down an electrical problem that is causing my battery to drain over 3-4 days. The battery and alternator are known to be good.

This morning, after charging the battery, the car still wouldn't start. I quickly determined that the main relay is not closing. Installed my spare relay; still not closing.

When I switched off the ignition, my CD player stayed on. Upon wiggling the key, it shut off.

So I'm suspecting a bad ignition switch is the cause of the relay not closing. Could it also be related to the battery drain?
