What does your ignition timing do?
Get your timing light out, check the timing at idle, rev it up to 2500 & see what it is, then rev it to 3500 & see what it is.
You want 10 degrees at idle & less than 35 maximum, if it only pings at 2500, you can cure that buy simply opening up the distributor & bending out the arm that the small spring attaches to with a pair of needle noise pliers. I tiny tweak there goes along way.
Ideally, you want it professional recurved & the amount of distributor advance reduced so that you can run a little more timing at idle & a little less at full advance.
