Good advice. I just pulled one plug (it is 35F and raw here today) and was almost stark raving white. It was not new, but the gap was still good.
The exhaust system is store bought, not home made. Where the two down pipes transition into one there is a fabricated Y made up from an upper half and a lower half. The converter is an original. It should be easy to unbolt the converter and take it for a drive.
The previous owner was all about installing a fancy radio and appears to have neglected or bungled some pretty basic mechanical tasks. What is with these kids ? Don't they realize that the radio is going to quit working shortly after they run out of oil ? And hey, maybe working brakes would be useful.
