You may not need a socket... 200 1989

...to get the seal in evenly.

A small length of wood that is square on the end can be used. Position it to overlap the seal and its housing, Then gently use a hammer to tap all around the seal until it's flush/even with the surface of the metal housing.

If you want the seal to seat farther in, you can saw/file away some of the area of the wood that acts as a stop on the seal housing. The part of the wood NOT removed will push the seal in deeper.
