First question is if you made sure the broken off tooth of the old gear was removed, if not that could cause it. The second possible cause is that there is a bad solder joint on the circuit board mounted to the side of the odometer, that was the case on our 92 245. Resolder each solder joint on the board and it may fix your problem.
