Hi Joseph,

You could, in theory, remove just the cup that holds the bushing and not the entire control arm. I say that because, in Arizona, the rear end of the control arm may not be rusted solid to the inner sleeve of the bushing.

Many have used hammers and vises to remove the bushing. Also many have found their new bushings a slip fit and way too loose, requiring them to be welded in -- possibly (in my mind) a result of the hammer and vise removal method. So I will only use a press.

Tightening them with load is no problem on the left side. On the right, the exhaust downpipe gets in the way. I avoid the whole question by removing the entire control arm, and tightening the nut off the car, holding the two pieces in the proper relationship as though the car's weight was on it.
