Wrong Sending Unit? 700 1990

I just bought a 1990 740 Turbo (production date 6/90) with a bad fuel sending unit/pump and bought:

Volvo 740 Turbo Fuel Tank Sending Unit 1986-1992 (Genuine Volvo)
OEM Number 3507492
http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/product_id/14913/nm/Volvo_740_Turbo_Fuel_Tank_Sending_Unit_1986_1992_Genuine_Volvo_/category_id/302

I just got a call from the Volvo mechanic saying that it's the wrong part, the old one that he took off was metal, the nipples are at 90 degrees (instead of being straight out) the old one doesn't have the pressure fitting and that instead of the ground being part of the wiring connection it should have it's own wire that connects to the chasis or something.

He suggested that they gave me one for a newer car, but the part I have is for years 1986-1992, so what's the deal?

I'm going to call FCP Groton as well, I'm wondering why this is different.

Thanks, George
