I LOVE the 240's....Not sure where to go from there.....

I was in your situation last year, and ended up with -- a Subaru Forester 2004. I find that it has many of the qualities of the 245: A simple, no-frills, reliable transportation. It is the least SUV-like of its kind (unlike the current Forester, which is just another SUV). The turbo-powered engine makes driving quite fun, too, and having 4WD this winter has been great. The engine bay is rather crowded though, simple jobs like checking the spark plugs is a nightmare.
