I vote with Art and others. You need to toss those wires. Distributor cap is a possible but the little rotor button, is even better! Had my moments with those.
If you saw how wires were made on the inside. You'll wonder how they run as long as they do. Nylon thread impregnated with powdered carbon. Think of it as a ground up pencil lead!
It is just powder in a rubbery straw. Then and add on some heat along with occasional rough/twisting yanks. Guess what happens on the inside.
If these were water hoses, the looks on the outside would be OK to use.
High voltage arcing (burning of flakes) inside transfer spells "internal breakdown" which in turn gives an "external breakdown". No start (wet cold engine) or an occasional idling miss (hot engine). Take your pick which one gets ignore first!
I know it doesn’t have any moving parts it shouldn’t wear out, right? In reality, those things inside, get hammered by those busy electrons.
Does it hit a little or pops and sputters? Have you checked the plugs individually for wetness?
The ignition switch had me for a bit. It gets used a lot but where does rain fit in?
With wires, age and high humidity counts!
Now water! That’s a reason why they put gas engines above the water on a boat and they still crap out all the time.
