Don't give up on the idea of using an adaptor--like me, you may just find a used aftermarket Volvo hub attached to a worn out steering wheel. The wheel/hub I found was made by a well known quality aftermarket supplier. The outer shell of vinyl was mostly gone from the wheel-exposing the foam base beneath. The wheel frame was made of flat steel and bolted to the aluminum hub with 6 quarter inch screws. I found a nicely shaped, thick rimmed, slightly dished production wheel (Camaro, I think)--drilled out the rivets securing it to its hub and drilled a few new holes to align with the threaded holes in my aftermarket hub. I have adapted a 242GT interior to my '69 144S--the front seat frames mounted to the 140 track assemblies--mounted them as low as possible but that still left too little room for my thighs. The "new" wheel is about 14" in diameter. Steering is definetely heavy at parking lot speeds but fine on the road and track days. Good luck hunting---Dave
