The VIN on your paperwork is correct.
As others have said, the chassis number on the plate is usually different but similar
to the last part of the VIN.
They started stamping the VIN on the firewall in the middle of the 66 model year.
Some have letters between the type and the serial number: 22244VF44489 is my 66 wagon.
The F indicates 1966, V indicates wagon.
