I just did mine pretty much as RHYS described it. I got the bottom of the seal started on the Crank, pushed up on the seal as I set the rest of it on the Crank to make sure the Lip stayed as it should. Then I slowly rotated it as as I pushed in to meet the Housing. I used a 6" piece of PVC pipe for Sewers drain ( it's a thinner wall PVC. I taped it around the clock and the seal went in as easy as pie. After hearing stories like yours, I was nervous, but 2 minutes and it was done.
