92 960 Trans ECU interchange

I have a 92 964 with a transmission ECU numbered 3515784. Looking for a replacement I've noticed the 9144038 ECU listed as also correct for the 92-94.

I think my car is an early one. Was the 914 an upgrade or are they different enough that they won't interchange? Any parts RKIs out there?
