The older fans only turn on when the radiator reaches the switch temperature. Mine would only occasionally come on when it was very hot out, I had the AC on, and I was stopped in traffic.

Since I replaced my radiator last year, I don't think it has come on since. The old one had acquired a coating of cottonwood fluff over the years that reduced its efficiency.

New 87 740 non turbo ac cold want auxillary fan to work. I shorted out fan and it does work that way replaced switch in radiator nothing according to faqs no relay need more tips thanks [700]
