"so it gets crazy hot out" Heat kills batteries faster than the cold.

Try monitoring the battery voltage as you turn the key, if it drops down to 8 - 9 volts the battery is toast. Also if a lead acid battery has a resting voltage of less than 12 volts it is gone. The engine electronics needs good voltage to run.
