About an early assumption... 200 1987

Hello to everyone who has posted,
YOUR INPUT HAS BEEN GREATLY APPRECIATED and I am going to thank one and all for your ideas and help. As stated in my original posting I replaced basically everything from distributor (hall sensor inside there) to BOTH fuel pumps, etcetc.. just an enormous list of trials..
PROBLEM IS SOLVED
PROBLEM IS SOLVED>>> ABSOLUTELY..

PROBLEM WAS BRANDY NEW IN TANK FUEL PUMP WAS BAD !!!!!!!
It must have quit withing 2 weeks of installation LAST SUMMER 09, JULY 15 ...
I did not resuspect it because
1. it drew 1.3 amps EVEN THO STALLED DEAD IN THERE!!!!
2, it was new...
Upon removing it on July 11, Sunday after the FOURTH main pump swap... i powered it there in the trunk and dead dead dead... BUT DRAWING 1.3 amps
I got it from Autozone, called them was within 4 days of the warranty !!
They do NOT stock THAT part any longer, a NEWER replacement now!! over 90 bucks too, but i got it for free exchange.. installed..
guess what amps it draws???
1.2 to 1.5 variable .... same as the DEAD PUMP...

During this I have measured and logged fuel rail temperature and it can hit 155F mid day in Tucson in the hot sun.. in traffic..

Art Benstein! you were right.. reading these posts again I see your new update comment about the Bosch pumps won't quit except starvation...that's what was obviously happening.. either in tank pump was constantly dead, or it was dying in the heat and hence starving and then causing the main pump to over heat and stop for a while..

When I monitored the main pump, I was driving it with main B+ from fuse panel with alligator clips THRU my ammeter... drawing amps but not running until cooling off.

I could have sworn, and just about did, that opening the hood caused it to recover faster, but that was a strong illusion.

In short, IN TANK FUEL PUMP which was frikkin brand new, WAS BAD and HAS BEEN BAD since summer 09.. main pump pulled thru the cool winter but can't keep up in the heat.

BTW changing the intank the second time, took me all of 15 minutes to do.. think of the MONTHS I HAVE BATTLED THIS..

Car is now a joy to drive, AC works great and gas mileage not too too bad. Now I can get on with normal life.. whatever THAT is.. paying obamataxes i suppose?

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL..
