In a 92, twisting the dizzy will do nothing but cause poor performance. Timing is controlled by the ECU/ICU based on the CPS. To me, it sounds like either a vacuum leak or a pair of swapped connectors. Read the codes from the ECU/ICU and see if they shed any light on the problem.
