Wiper motorhead

So, the front wipers are slow and the wiper motor itself in the engine bay is making a grinding/not-so-good noise. Does this mean the motor is just about to kick the bucket?... Should I troubleshoot it a bit, or just replace it?... Also, what's a good way to go?.. a Junk yard part?.. a Scan-Tech cheepie, or a pricer new one?... thanks again, as always.
