8 volt in a six volt car 444-544

Do you know what gauge the positive battery cable is?

It should be at least "O" gauge which is pretty big. Don't use a standard off-the-shelf battery cable that is for a 12 volt system. Those are too small in diameter for a 6 volt system.

I misdiagnosed slow cranking on my PV. Just by chance after cranking I touched the new 12V cable that I had installed. It was pretty hot. Lost a lot of electrical power to that heat. Changed to a proper O gauge cable and it has cranked fine since. Indeed a 6V starter does not turn as fast, but it is plenty to get the car started.

Maybe this will help.
