Hi,
I think you started at the wrong end. I have a 1977 264 GL that I bought for 500 dollars. Needless to say, it needed lots of work, and it still does. I replaced the engine first however, and this was the most enthralling work I've done as a hobby. There is plenty of body work to be done, paint, small rust, etc. That part is really a triviality.
I see old men in old cars, I laugh quite a bit at that. I'm 25. Some of these men have nice looking cars and some don't, but most of their cars run like garbage queens and I can only imagine what their world would become if they had to pass emissions. Likely they would ponder which county to register in, or which magic product to buy. I'm not saying that all old people are lazy, just the ones who drive garbage queens, and talk about how the world has gone bad, and how unfair it is to follow the new laws, because they weren't there before.
It's pretty neat I'd say, to have a car that runs at all. I'm happy with riding my bike and planning my trips. To have a car that runs perfect, to every expectation, and then to take it apart and have it run better, cleaner, more efficient, well I'd say that is a pretty neat thing too. It saddens me when people have no ability to help themselves or anybody else. The ones who complacently dribble over the opportunity to have something good, and settle for the mediocre, I really have no feelings for at all.
Such a light question, to use a garage or not...
