Got to the car at first light this AM. Rapped on the starter motor and solenoid. No crank. Checked out the neutral safety switch with wiggles and shifts, No crank. Then clipped a wire on solenoid's terminal 50 and the other end to battery's + terminal. Still no crank. With this last test, figured the ignition switch/wires to solenoid were ok and that the neutral safety switch was ok, too. Likely, the starter motor, then, was the fault. I wimped out on having the car towed home. Heavy snow is expected tonight, a reputable shop is a few doors down (an '84/'85 245DL was parked at the business) and it was a short tow. A few hours later, the shop confirmed it was a faulty starter. Thank you for the tips.
For the fun of Volvos,
Mike
