A few years ago, I had a similar problem on my '90 760. Without pulling apart the lens this evening, I recall that the assemblies do not have a printed circuit. I diagnosed with better than 50% confidence that the issue was an electrical contact issue. I forced a piece of conductive metal under neath the bulb socket to prevent it from flexing too much. This problem has not returned. So, my advise is to look for flimsy contacts that may be the issue and find a way to stiffen them.
