I read this some time ago and just left it alone because I do not know anything about turbo models. Now I am bored for entertainment, I think.
Removing the 0-2 made the mileage go up is possible I thought.
For my amusement only, I thought that if you removed the turbo it would get even better too.
Adding some cartons of chicken eggs between the seats would help.
It would take me most of at least a carton of twelve to get me away from home before I would get the knack to make that work well. I still would have to make the trip back!
One mile per gallon could be a fluke in the making accurate measurements or lack there. There can be a mess of variables to consider. Even the EPA prints a variance.
The 0-2 sensor is not there just for mileage but for cleaner emissions, by not over loading the catalytic converter. That gets stinky of course but I figure, you are all gone from that!
The AMM will measure the increase in airflow and the ECU will do its thing by adding more fuel.
How does the ECU get any feed back to know that it has done that right?
The basic computer program map must be darn close for average conditions. What will happen if things become not so average due to climate change or from some components that wear? That is besides the tires when you are drifting about!
O-2 sensors are part of the self-tuning features, IMHO.
