If it's not on the firewall then check the previous owner's title for the one they used. I had an awful time with the authorities here in Connecticut as the car is a 62 and there was no 17 digit # they could see and copy. I explained that the car in Californis had an id # that is stated on the little plate on the inside fender and on the previous owner's title. Well that was not good enough so they issued me a new vin # using the 2 from the year followed by the body style number, I think? Anyway this new 4 digit # does not appear anywhere on the car as it is just mythical. This took 3 trips to motor vechicle 2 local and 1 to their headquarters in Hartford. So good luck
