When you changed cams, that was the only thing changed? You didn't put on a different head? Change the distributor?
I was thinking about the 61/71 combo but thought it might have not bled off enough cylinder pressure with the high c.r.
That would have been best if you have twin SU's, they just aren't fond of duration because of the 180° manifold. My local cam grinder has a 215°@.050", .300" lobe lift that works great with SU's or D-Jet, but the extra lift on a short duration cam can be harder to break in & I doubt it would be any better than a K cam with a stock head.
Compression ratio: I have a K cam running in a 2130 with 12.5:1 compression, I had to limit the distributor so that it starts & idles with 10° & gives 20° total. It's not ideal, but I don't think it's missing any power. It's probably lossing a MPG or two because it's wasting energy over compressing, but I don't really know.
