How to test my amp gauge 444-544

Jim

Suggested reading which should help familiarize you with Ampmeter function: http://www.sw-em.com/elecramb.htm

If gauge is always reading in the middle (no Charge or Discharge current) that does suggest it has a problem...I would expect it to show charging current flowing back into the battery after each Start has taken energy out...I will take a look at the 444-544 wiring diagram to see what currents are measured, and see if I can glean any other useful info from it...but I would start with George's suggested test and report back. 12V or 6V system?

I just looked at this wiring diagram: http://www.sw-em.com/444LS%206V%20Wiring%20Diagram.gif...if you confirm this as similar to yours, then the Ampmeter is indeed connected in the standard "H" configuration as cover in the tech article.

Cheers
