Ok, the timing wander is irrelevant, then, if you're used to seeing it and it isn't any wilder than others, but I disagree with the notion this is a mopar characteristic instead of simply slop in the distributor that feeds it. EZK in an early 700 (EZ117K) uses the same distributor and exhibits the same behavior. EZ116K in a 240 is more precisely triggered by the flywheel.
So, you're sure it isn't ignition, and your experience with "used parts" is poorer than with used cars. Looks like you're down to step 3 in my first reply.
