Almost everyone I know jumps for joy when they get rid of the chrome trim around the windshield (Scorron would be the exception). The plain black rubber windshield seal from the newer models is 100% compatible with older models and makes no wind noise (minimal in the first place). The other "beauty" of the black seal is that there are no plastic clips that break which then require a windshield removal to replace so the chrome trim stays on.
I have done this "to black" swap on an 89, and 90, the results were great, no leaks, and the looks are perfect. Note that our 92 came from the factory with the black windshield seal/trim, I consider this a major upgrade.
